In dialog with Hans Purrmann. Modern and contemporary art in Langenargen

Museum Langenargen
March 22 November 1, 2020

The large summer exhibition at the Langenargen Museum presents numerous paintings and graphic works by Hans Purrmann (1880-1966), some of which are still unknown. Purrmann’s highly productive stays on Lake Constance between 1916 and 1935 are the main focus of the exhibition and offer the opportunity to shed new light on his paintings as part of a double dialog: on the one hand, works by his companions in Langenargen, such as his wife Mathilde Vollmoeller-Purrmann, Marcel Dornier and Julius Herburger, enliven the exhibition. On the other hand, selected contemporary artistic positions from Langenargen demonstrate the topicality of Purrmann’s work.

Exhibition curator: Priv.-Doz. Dr. Ralf Michael Fischer

The exhibition is accompanied by a publication with texts by Ralf Michael Fischer, Felix Billeter, Julie Kennedy and Lisa Kern.
